93-year-old Michigan man freezes to death after electric company shuts off his power in the dead of winter!

 Jan 26, 2008 – Marvin E. Schur a 93-year-old man from  Bay City, Mich. froze to death inside his home just days after the local power company shut off his electricity because of unpaid bills, officials said Marvin E. Schur died "a slow, painful death," said Kanu Virani, Oakland County’s deputy chief medical examiner, who performed the autopsy.Schur’s Neighbors discovered his body on Jan. 17. They said the indoor temperature was well below 32 degrees when they found his body, The Bay City Times reported Monday.Schur had no children and his wife had died several years ago.Meanwhile, back at Bay City Electric Light and Power a voted was passed to raise their rates.  The retro-active rate hike will cost the average homeowner an extra $21 per year, in additional electric power cost.  The change will take effect this spring. The 3 percent increase comes on top of a 9 percent rate hike approved last summer. In December 2007, a 90-year-old woman in Kalamazoo, Mich., died of hypothermia after spending four days in her home after the power had been shut off.
